Amira Willighagen sings 'O Mio Babbino Caro' on Holland's Got Talent and delivers an astounding performance which results in her being awarded a 'Golden Ticket'. This ticket allows her to proceed straight to the Live Show.

Some people have incorrectly interpreted this to mean the Final, but the first Live Show will be the Semi-Final on 21 December followed by the Final on 28 December 2013.

O mio babbino caro (Oh my dear papa) is an aria from the opera Gianni Schicchi (1918), by Giacomo Puccini, to a libretto by Giovacchino Forzano.

 

It is sung by Lauretta after tensions between Schicchi and his prospective in-laws have reached a breaking point that threatens to separate her from Rinuccio, the boy she loves.

 

It provides a contrasting interlude expressing lyrical simplicity and single-hearted love in the atmosphere of hypocrisy, jealousy, double-dealing and feuding in medieval Florence of Puccini's only comedy, and it provides the only set-piece in the through-composed conversational musical give-and-take.

푸치니의 잔니 스키키

 

부유한 친척이 죽었는데, 전 재산을 수도원에 기부하기로 했다는 소식에 실망하는 친척들. 유언장을 바꿔쓰기로 하는데, 정작 그 일을 잔니 스키키에게 맡기자니까 모두 반대! 이유는 단 하나, 스키키가 시골뜨기 촌놈이라서!

 

그 말을 들은 스키키, 당연히 엄청 분노! 덧붙여 이 집안 아들과 자기 딸의 결혼도 절대 반대라고 선언! 다급해진 스키키의 딸 라우레타, 결혼을 허락해달라고 간청하는데, 이 노래가 바로 그 곡이다.

 

그런데 가사를 보면... 허락해 주지 않으면 강물에 투신 자살하겠다는 것! 아름다운 선율과는 딴판으로 아빠를 협박하는 노래! 아무튼 이 노래를 들은 잔니 스키키, 결국 딸의 간청을 받아들이게 된다.
